Basic Training of CMS ED & General Physician Attendant

This program is designed to provide hands-on clinical and laboratory training for individuals aspiring to work as Physician Assistants, Clinic Support Staff, CMS ED Assistants, and General Physician Attendants. The course focuses on practical medical skills required in clinics, diagnostic centers, and primary healthcare settings.

Course Structure & Curriculum


Module 1: Phlebotomy Department Training

Students receive practical training in safe and accurate blood collection procedures.

Topics Covered:

  • Test precautions (Lipid Profile, Blood Sugar, Calcium, etc.)
  • Patient preparation before sample collection
  • Phlebotomy site identification & antiseptic preparation
  • Safe and correct sample collection techniques
  • Order of Draw (vacutainer sequence)
  • Prevention of contamination & hemolysis
  • Patient safety & comfort during blood collection

Module 2: Laboratory Department Training

Hands-on exposure to basic laboratory operations and diagnostic procedures.

Topics Covered:

  • Difference between Serum and Plasma
  • Centrifuge operation techniques & safety precautions
  • Quality control review & importance of timing in result interpretation
  • Laboratory workflow basics
  • Sample handling & processing

Basic Staining Techniques:

  • Gram Stain
  • AFB Stain
  • Leishman Stain
  • Slide preparation & microscopic observation

Module 3: Rapid Card Diagnostic Testing

Practical training in performing and interpreting rapid tests:

  1. VDRL
  2. Typhoid / Widal Test
  3. HIV Rapid Test
  4. HCV
  5. HBsAg
  6. Malaria Parasite Test
  7. ESR
  8. ASO
  9. RA
  10. CRP
  11. Troponin-I (TROP-I)

Students learn test procedures, precautions, and result interpretation basics.

Module 4: Clinical & Patient Care Skills

Essential support skills for working alongside physicians.

Clinical Training Includes:

  • Blood Pressure measurement
  • CPR (Basic Life Support awareness)
  • ECG – Selected clinical features
  • Glucometer usage
  • Height, Weight & BMR measurement
  • Basic vital signs monitoring
  • Patient history taking & its clinical importance

Module 5: Basic Microscopy

Hands-on examination and identification of:

  • Urine routine examination
  • Stool examination
  • Peripheral blood smear
  • Recognition of common abnormal findings

Module 6: Basic Pathology Lab Setup

Introduction to setting up and managing a small pathology lab:

  • Essential lab equipment & instruments
  • Basic infrastructure requirements
  • Workflow planning
  • Quality control basics
  • Introduction to NABL standards
